Diamond Brand® Ferrous Sulfate is produced to meet exact specifications for quality and consistency in plant health technologies. This chemical compound is produced in both liquid and crystalline forms and consists of soluble iron (Fe), sulfur (S), oxygen (O) and water (H2O). Diamond Brand Ferrous Sulfate products are the only Canadian registered source of ferrous sulfate as a Pest Control Product (PCP) under the Canadian PCP Act.

Diamond Brand Moist Ferrous Sulfate, also referred to as Copperas, is a co-product of the processing of ilmenite ore during the manufacturing of titanium dioxide paint pigment or as a co-product of steel pickling. Both industrial processes offer a moist crystalline form containing approximately 8% exterior water, 44% interior water, 17% iron, 30% sulfate and less than 1% miscellaneous trace elements.

Our Drying Process

Each formulation of Diamond Brand Moist Ferrous Sulfate undergoes a quality and uniformity inspection by our in-house laboratory before being put through an automated manufacturing system. This system includes drying, screening and packaging. During this process, moist heptahydrate crystals are dried using gas-fired rotary kilns.

As heated air is drawn through the crystals, exterior water evaporates, leaving a dried, free-flowing heptahydrate. After that, further drying at higher temperatures is used to remove interior molecules of water in ferrous sulfate heptahydrate and produce a free-flowing dried ferrous sulfate monohydrate product. With two independent, gas-fired rotary kilns and additional drying capacity in North Lima, Ohio, we offer the largest ferrous sulfate drying capacity in North America with more than 60,000 tons dried annually.

Coarse and fine granular particle sizes of dried ferrous sulfate monohydrate are milled and screened through our compaction process. After screening, our granular ferrous sulfate products can be customized with a wax coating for dust control.

All of our ferrous sulfate forms are “Technical Grade” materials (not fit for human consumption) and low in heavy metals. These products are tested by our on-site laboratory for chemical analysis and heavy metals using AA and ICP equipment and are manufactured to meet all federal, state and local regulations for heavy metals and impurities.
